COMPANY AWAREDED A "LAURÉAT" GOLD

Company was awareded a "lauréat" gold in september 2002. This award was granted by the National Bank which recognises work achievments, competence, dynamics and excellence of humain resources management.

We are presently involved in a research and development project for the design of a crawler-drilling machine with a capacity of 1,000 metres deep. The machine is the improved version of the very popular model that we designed in 1995. The new equipment has justified the attention of the Ministère des Ressources naturelles du Québec (MRNQ) for it is designed to mitigate environmental damage done by drilling campaigns. According to our calculations, the new improved crawler drilling machine will come with a maximum land pressure of 22.2 kPa (3.18 psi), thus circumventing section 93 and 94 of the Regulations respecting standards of forest management for forests in the public domain with regard to peatland (drainage 5 & 6). As a result, it will be possible to undertake drilling operations throughout the year without having to pile up 35 cm of snow and ice to move the equipment in winter. This new drilling machine will prove a major technological innovation, particularly now that the MRNQ has taken initiatives to strengthen its enforcement of the Regulation respecting the application of the Environment Quality Act (Dec. 12, 1997).

Our self-moving crawler-drilling machine will not require the use of a tractor, thus precluding the necessity of a second dolly. For a 1,000-metre drilling campaign carried out in Abitibi, that represents savings of $2.50 per metre.

Important environmental protection features include an oil recovery tank and liquid absorbents mounted on the framework of the new crawler-drilling machine. Those features are useful in case of oil leakage, particularly when drilling work is carried out in farming areas and sugar maple stands. The new crawler-drilling machine can be dismantled and heliborne.
